| has gloss | eng: Bathos (Greek βάθος, meaning depth), strictly speaking, refers to the expression or discovery of humor in a phrase, whether done deliberately through the use of an incongruous or ironic combination of ideas in order to make the humorous aspect seem unintended, or unintentionally, providing fun for the critical reader. If the contrast is overtly intended, it may be described as Burlesque or mock-heroic. As used in English it originally referred to a particular type of bad poetry, but it is now used more broadly to cover any seemingly ridiculous artwork or lame performance. It should not be confused with pathos, which is general storytelling directed to the emotions, usually sadness. |
