| has gloss | eng: Beach nourishment - also referred to as beach replenishment - is a complementary term that describes a process by which sediment (usually sand) lost through longshore drift or erosion is replaced on a beach. It involves the transport of the nourishment material from one area to the affected area. This process is often expensive depending upon the source (and thus the cost) of the sand. Beach nourishment is almost always used as part of a coastal defense scheme. A poorly-designed and/or executed beach nourishment project can result in a severely impacted ecosystem, regardless of how much care is taken to deal with the sustainability of the littoral environment. Once a beach is nourished, it almost always is necessary to regularly renourish it since nourished beaches tend to erode faster than natural beaches. The economic activity generated through beach tourism may compensate for the cost of both capital and maintenance beach nourishment works, but only in a small number of heavily urbanized areas. |

| has gloss | ita: Ripascimento in geomorfologia ed in geologia è il fenomeno naturale di riporto lungo i fiumi, i laghi e le coste marine di quantità di sabbia per lazione dello scorrere delle acque lungo i fiumi ed in mare per lazione delle onde e delle correnti. Il ripascimento costiero ultimamente è un argomento che ha assunto una grande importanza per la necessità del ripristino artificiale delle condizioni preesistenti o ideali di tratti sabbiosi marini, ma anche lagunari e fluviali, quasi sempre quindi spiagge utilizzate a fini turistici presso località balneari, attraverso lazione di riporto di volumi di sabbia con le stesse caratteristiche peculiari del sito interessato, quindi dello stesso colore, granulometria e tipologia del materiale, generalmente quarzo e/o granuli di conchiglie frantumati e levigati dallazione delle onde. Il ripascimento artificiale è quindi una azione molto delicata e complessa e deve rispettare severe norme di attuazione a carattere giuridico e scientifico nel settore delle opere civili marittime e che solitamente si intraprende a seguito di un lungo ed acceso dibattito ambientale e politico. |

Deze kustverdedigingsmaatregelen worden toegepast vanwege veiligheidsredenen, maar een suppletie op het strand kan ook vanuit recreatief oogpunt worden ingezet. Het zand wordt gewonnen in wingebieden in de Noordzee. |
