A vízözönből megmenekült ősatya, éppúgy, mint a vele végződő genealógia kezdete, Ádám (Ádám testamentuma; Ádám és Éva élete) különösen alkalmas volt arra, hogy az emberiség bűneiről és bűnhődéséről szóljon.
