has gloss	eng: The Burgerlijk Wetboek (or BW) is the civil code of the Netherlands. Early permutations were largely based on the Napoleonic code. Given substantive reform in 1992, the Dutch Civil Code now adopts much from the Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch (BGB), the German Civil Code. The Code deals with the rights of individuals (Book 1), legal entities (Book 2), the rights of property (Book 3) and succession (Book 4). It also sets out the law of obligations (Book 5) and of contracts (Books 6-7). Proposed amendments will add Books on intellectual property and private international law.

Es wurde 1838 verabschiedet und war bis auf das Familienrecht größtenteils eine Übersetzung des Code civil, unterschied jedoch im systematischen Aufbau. 1947 wurde auf Dekret der Königin Eduard Meijers mit beauftragt ein neues Zivilgesetzbuch zu entwerfen. Es wurde abschnittsweise zwischen 1970 und 1992 als Nieuw Burgerlijk Wetboek (NBW) vom Parlament verabschiedet.
