has glosseng: The Compass Card is a contactless smart card fare collection system in San Diego County, California maintained by the San Diego Association of Governments designed to expedite fare collection, reduce fuaud, and decrease paper-waste as compared to the existing paper transit pass system. It allows riders of both the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and North County Transit District (NCTD) to store paperless passes on a plastic re-useable card. It can be used on MTS or NCTD (Breeze) buses along with San Diego Trolley, Coaster, and Sprinter routes. If a Compass Card is reported lost or stolen the card is de-activated and the customer can purchase a new card to be received via mail with the existing balance and/or passes loaded onto it. While the ammont of time the cardholder may have the card in their possession may be shorter, the card itself is intended to be re-loadable and re-usable for up to five years.
