has gloss	eng: In international law, diplomatic protection (or diplomatic espousal) is a means for a State to take diplomatic and other action against another State on behalf of its national whose rights and interests have been injured by the other State. Diplomatic protection, which has been confirmed in different cases of the Permanent Court of International Justice and the International Court of Justice, is a discretionary right of a State and may take any form that is not prohibited by international law. It can include consular action, negotiations with the other State, political and economic pressure, judicial or arbitral proceedings or other forms of peaceful dispute settlement.

has gloss	ces: Diplomatická ochrana je politický právní institut, při němž dochází k ochraně fyzické či právnické osoby tím, že její domovský stát na sebe převede nároky či závazky, které má daná osoba vůči jinému státu. K takovému jednání má každý suverénní stát mezinárodního společenství svobodné právo. Avšak nejedná se o jeho povinnost. Tím, že domovský stát převzal závazky daného subjektu, tyto následně po něm vymáhá a charakter sporu se mění z vnitrostátního na mezistátní (mezinárodní).

has gloss	kor: 외교적 보호(外交的保護, diplomatic protection)는 재외국민보호라고도 하는데, 국가가 외국에 거주하는 자국민을 외교절차를 통해 보호하는 것이다. 자국민이 외국에서 불법적인 취급을 당하는 경우 외교기관을 통해 이를 외국에 항의하여 자국민을 구제할 수 있다. 재외자국민 보호를 위해서는 자국민(특히 시정하에 있는 주민)이 외국에 의해 불법적 취급을 받거나 손해를 입은 경우, 피해자가 가해국의 재판소 등을 이용하여 국내적 구제절차를 통해서는 구제를 받지 못하였거나 구제받을 전망이 없는 경우, 피해 당시로부터 외교적 보호가 이루어질 때까지 피해자가 본국 국적을 계속 유지하였을 것을 조건으로 하고 있다.
