Beim Aktzeichnen wird in der Regel ein lebendes Modell als Vorlage gewählt, meist erfolgt der Prozess des Zeichnens im Rahmen eines dafür vorgesehenen Kurses. Die Abbildung des nackten Körpers ist eine schwierige künstlerische Aufgabe, entsprechend wird Aktzeichnen oft als Übung, z. B. für Proportionsstudien eingesetzt. Das Ergebnis des Aktzeichnens bezeichnet man als Akt.
