It is known as one of the citys opposition strongholds. During Togos riots of 2005, following the death of Gnassingbé Eyadema, it was the site of some of the fiercest fighting and looting of Lebanese-owned businesses. The border street is known for illegal frontier crossings and drug trafficking.
