has gloss | eng: Las Adelitas de Aztlán was an organization started by a group of women, including Gloria Arellanes and Gracie and Hilda Reyes, who left the Brown Berets in 1970. Their name was a tribute to the female fighters, or soldaderas, of the Mexican Revolution. Their creation was a response, in part, to moves by the brown berets which alienated female members, like a February 28, 1970 ad in La Causa which read: "The man we are looking for must have Huevos, a will to stand for what he believes." |
