Information
has glosseng: The Marshall Major was a guitar amplifier made by Marshall. It was introduced in 1967 as the Marshall 200 (in reference to the Wattage of the amplifier), but was later nicknamed "The Pig" by David Bowie guitarist Mick Ronson. Ronson and a number of other guitarists swore by this amp. After the design was modified so that it was wider, in order to comply with the standard 100W amplifier head width, it was renamed the Major in early 1968. To accommodate extra components to facilitate the unusual 200W power, the Major was taller than 100W amplifier heads. It had two channels and four inputs. It used four KT88 output valves, two ECC83 preamp valves, and a single ECC82 preamp valve. Approxiametely 1200 of these amps were produced from 1968 to 1974 when it was discontinued.
