| has gloss | mal: ദക്ഷിണേന്ത്യക്കാരായ പുരുഷന്മാരുടെ ഒരു പ്രധാന വേഷമാണ് മുണ്ട്. തമിഴില്‍ ഇതിന്‌ വേഷ്ടി എന്നാണ്‌ പറയുന്നത്. പ്രാചീന കാലം മുതല്‍ കേരളത്തില്‍ മുണ്ട് ഉപയോഗിച്ചു വരുന്നു. മുണ്ട് വേഷമായി സ്വീകരിച്ചവര്‍ പുരുഷന്മാരില്‍ 75%-ലേറെയാണ്. വലിയ ഒരു കഷ്ണം തുണിയാണ് മുണ്ട്. പല തരത്തിലും മുണ്ട് ഉടുക്കാവുന്നതാണ്. ആദ്യകാലങ്ങളില്‍ മുണ്ട് തറ്റുടുക്കുകയാണ് ചെയ്തിരുന്നത്. എന്നാല്‍ പിന്നീട് അതിന് പല മാറ്റങ്ങളും സംഭവിച്ചു. ഇന്ന് സാധാരണയായി മുണ്ട് അരയില്‍ ചുറ്റുകയാണ് ചെയ്യാറ്. കേരളത്തില്‍ പ്രധാനവേഷം മുട്ടോളം വരുന്ന മുണ്ടായിരുന്നു എങ്കിലും യൂറോപ്യന്മാരുടെ ആഗമനശേഷവും തീണ്ടല്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ അനാചാരങ്ങള്‍ നിലച്ചതിനുശേഷവും അവര്‍ണ്ണരായവരും കണങ്കാലോളം നീളമുള്ള മുണ്ട് ഉടുത്തുതുടങ്ങി. നിറങ്ങള്‍ പിടിപ്പിച്ച മുണ്ട് കൈലി അഥവാ ലുങ്കി എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ദക്ഷിണേന്ത്യക്കാരായ പുരുഷന്മാരുടെ വീട്ടുവേഷമാണത്. ചില കലാലയങ്ങളില്‍ മുണ്ട് ഉടുത്തു വരുന്നത് നിരോധിച്ചത് പ്രധിഷേധങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് വഴിവച്ചിരുന്നു. |
