It consists of nine separate and smaller sections, the Puget Trough, Olympic Mountains, Oregon Coast Range, Klamath Mountains, California Trough, California Coast Ranges, and Los Angeles Ranges. The region encompasses most of the North American Pacific coast, ending at the northern end of the Lower California (or Peninsular Ranges), in Southern California. The region is prone to earthquakes, residing along the eastern edge of the Pacific Ring of Fire. |
