His works pertain to the optical principles of photography and digital special effects as well as the semiotic uses of these mediums. In 2008, he published an article with Film Comment Magazine, which criticized the film Transformers for its imaginative shortcomings and called for a new conceptual approach to the conception and production of computer-generated effects. Earlier works have addressed the issues of optical perspective and temporal viewership in sculpture and painting. He has also published on the work of the artists Heide Fasnacht and Bruce Conner.
