Information
has glosseng: Image:Pixiphone2.jpg| The Pixiphone has been universally incorrectly spelt Pixiephone since the instrument was made famous by Steve Peregrin Took on the Tyrannosaurus Rex albums with Marc Bolan . The Pixiphone was not a single instrument, but rather a range with varying numbers of Notes played with a pair of hammers. The larger Pixiphones also had a raiser-bar which could be used to end the note sharply, rather than letting the note fade naturally. Although listed as a children's toy they could be tuned pitch-perfect and were very robust meaning that countless thousands of children used them at British Schools. They were manufactured by Chas E. Methven Ltd, Catham, England; distributed by Playcraft Toys Ltd England from the 1950s to the 1970s (or possibly later). The instrument was also used on the Badfinger song, "She Came Out of the Cold" which featured on the compilation album, Without You.
