Plusgirot hette tidigare Postgirot och grundades 1925. 1994 ombildades Postgirot till Postgirot Bank AB och var ett helägt dotterbolag till Posten. 1999 beslutade Posten att bankverksamheten skulle avvecklas och 2001 såldes samtliga aktier i bolaget till Nordbanken för omkring 4,1 miljarder kronor.
