It is a tied house, being owned by the Samuel Smith Brewery of Tadcaster in Yorkshire. The building is protected by its Grade II listing with an interior dating to the late 19th Century, by W. B. Simpson and is listed on CAMRAs national inventory of historic pub interiors. Considered so historically significant, even the mens toilets are listed. The pub was refurbished in 2007.
