Tato schopnost je v různé rozvinutosti patrná téměř u každého a dá se cvičit. Lidé s relativním sluchem si dokážou zapamatovat i dlouhé melodické pasáže. Nicméně vždy si pamatují jen vzájemné vztahy tónů, které tvoří melodii.
