The game's use of the fantasy genre typically incudes the use of magical swords, shields, and armor, all of which the rust monster can eat. The monster has thus gained notoriety among the culture of the role playing game, due to the things many characters within the game do to preserve their wealth and magical weaponry. Humor is generally associated with these stories, and players sense a degree of absurdity in severe reactions to the monster, as its threat is much less lethal than other monsters in the game.
