has gloss | eng: Ryans Creek Aerodrome is a small airstrip on Stewart Island in New Zealand. Made in the late 1970s to accommodate Stewart Island Air Services, flying Aztec DUB & TJE, 402 DSB, Nomad SAL, and Islander IAS ,FFL. The strip was made of the native red rock from the area. In the mid 80s Stewart Island Air Services changed its name to Southern Air LIMITED with share holders, Keith Smith, Joe Cave, Bill Haslett and Sam Nicol. This was around the mid 80s when Southern Air Ltd was established. RC was now ashphalted and ready for service with its new owner. All the aircraft from SIAS were sold, apart from IAS which crashed on the strip and FFL which remained with Southern Air. Stewart Island Travel used Ford Transits to take passengers top and from the strip, then offering bus tours of the islands roads. |
