SR1 stands for Spelling Reform 1, and it was part of a 50-stage reform that Lindgren advocated in his book Spelling Reform: A New Approach. It spelt every short as E. It had some success in Australia and the government briefly adopted some alternative spellings along the lines of the proposal. As conceived by Lindgren, it was to lead on to two possible target schemes, Phonetic A and Phonetic B. |
