Chiba played different characters in each series. In the first he played the Japanese samurai Hattori Hanzō III. In second he played Tsuge Shinpachi. In the third he played Tarao Hanzō. In the fourth he played Hattori Hanzō XV. In Shin Kage no Gundan, he played Hattori Hanzō II.
