A Renewable Portfolio Standard requires 20% renewable energy by 2020, and 4% from solar power from investor owned utilities, and 10% renewable from rural electric cooperatives. The 600 MW solar photovoltaic power plant, the Rancho Cielo Solar Farm, is expected to provide the majority of the power for the 6,000 acre (2,400 ha) Rancho Cielo planned industrial community.
