has gloss	nld: Een stins of state is een voormalige burcht of landhuis in de Nederlandse provincie Friesland. Het Friese woord stins betekent steenhuis. Oorspronkelijk werd de benaming stins alleen gebruikt voor de stenen wachttorens die bij de vaak houten state. Later werd de naam stins ook gebruikt voor het hele gebouw. De enige nog bestaande middeleeuwse stins is de Schierstins in Veenwouden.
