has gloss	eng: The Sergeants affair was an incident that took place in the British Mandate of Palestine in July 1947 in which a Jewish underground group Irgun kidnapped two British Intelligence Corps NCOs, Sergeant Clifford Martin and Sergeant Mervyn Paice, and threatened to kill them if Irgun militants then arrested by the British authorities on charges of terrorism were executed. When the executions were carried out, Irgun murdered its hostages and hung their booby trapped bodies in a grove near Netanya. This act was widely condemned in both Palestine and the United Kingdom. The event led to reprisals by British troops in which five Jews were killed, as well as antisemitic violence in Britain.

has gloss	heb: פרשת הסרגנטים היא פרשת חטיפתם של שני סמלים (סרגנטים) בריטים על ידי האצ"ל ותלייתם ב"חורשת הסרג'נטים" בנתניה במהלך חודש יולי 1947, שנעשו כתגובה לתלייתם של שלושה לוחמי האצ"ל על ידי הבריטים. פרשה זו עוררה הד תקשורתי נרחב, ספגה גינויים מחוגים רבים בעולם היהודי והוליכה לפרעות כנגד יהודים בבריטניה. לפי היסטוריונים אחדים, הפרשה (ביחד עם פעולות נוספות של האצ"ל) גרמה לבריטים להפוך נחושים יותר בהחלטה לוותר על המנדט, אך במקביל חיזקה דעת קהל שלילית כלפי היישוב היהודי.
