This was the fourth major snowstorm of the season for some of these areas, and the third storm in February (See First North American blizzard of 2010, Second North American blizzard of 2010). The storm dropped its heaviest snow of (locally as much as ) across a wide area of interior New England, New York State, and Pennsylvania.
