| has gloss | eng: A weather cell consists of a high pressure zone and a low pressure zone. Three weather cells are found in each hemisphere: the equatorial celljust described, a mid-latitude cell, and a polar cell. These global atmospheric weather cells act as heat pumps, driven by solar radiation and the evaporation of sea water. When water vapor in the atmosphere condenses, the stored heat required for its evaporation is released and it warms the air above the higher latitudes.Weather cells redistribute two thirds of the equatorial solar radiation to the rest of the globe. The remaining third is redistributed by ocean currents. |
