has gloss | eng: Rough fish (or the slang trash fish) is a term used by U.S. state agencies and anglers to describe less desirable fish within a region or country. The term usually refers to fish that are not commonly eaten, not sought after for sporting reasons, or have become an invasive species that reduce the populations of desirable fish. Small fish such as shiners or minnows generally are not considered rough fish because of their usefulness as bait. Within any fresh or saltwater ecosystem, there will always be both desirable and undesirable fishes, and this varies from country to country, and often from region to region within a country. Coarse fish is a similar term used in the United Kingdom, where it means all freshwater fish apart from freshwater game fish (trout, salmon and char). |
