| has gloss | deu: Baumwollsamenöl (auch Baumwollsaatöl oder Cottonöl, lat. oleum gossypii, engl. cotton seed oil) ist ein dickflüssiges fettes Pflanzenöl, das durch Pressen oder Extrahieren mit Schwefelkohlenstoff aus Baumwollsamen gewonnen wird. Die Ausbeute beträgt 15–30 %. Das rohe gepresste Öl ist wegen des Gehalts an giftigem Gossypol dunkelrotbraun und mit Schleim und Eiweißkörpern verunreinigt. Durch Oxidation mit der Luft verstärkt sich die Färbung weiter. Das spezifische Gewicht des rohen Öls beträgt 0,917–0,928 g/cm³. Baumwollsamenöl erstarrt bei −2 bis −3 °C. Nach der Raffination und dem Bleichen mit Kalilauge ist es dann hellgelb, schmeckt nussartig und riecht schwach erdartig. Es erstarrt zwischen 2 und 0 °C, ist unlöslich in Alkohol, aber löslich in Äther und steht zwischen den trocknenden und nicht-trocknenden Ölen. |
