La Chambre claire, par opposition à la chambre noire où l’on développe la photo, est un éclaircissement, une philosophie, selon Roland Barthes. Celui-ci reste abasourdi par une photo de 1852 représentant le dernier frère de Napoléon. Il se dit alors : « Ces yeux ont vu l’Empereur ! ». Puis la photographie culturelle l’éloigne peu à peu de cet étonnement. Il veut cependant savoir ce que la photographie est « en soi », si elle dispose d’un « génie » propre. En tout cas elle reproduit à l’infini, mécaniquement, ce qui n’a lieu qu’une fois. Elle ne peut être transformée philosophiquement. Percevoir ce qu’elle signifie n’est pas impossible si l’on fait appel à la réflexion. |
