The dance movements, however, bear a strong resemblance to Middle Eastern “belly dancing” due to the rhythmicized hip rotation as the women begin to dance in a circle. Such stylistic blending allows the performers to communicate not only what it is to be from western Kenya, but also what it is to be Kenyan in general."
