An einer Insulitis sind vorwiegend CD4-positive T-Lymphozyten beteiligt, darüber hinaus spielen antigenpräsentierende Zellen wie Makrophagen und dendritische Zellen sowie in geringerem Maße B-Lymphozyten und CD8-positive T-Zellen eine Rolle.
