e/Interference theory

Information
has glosseng: Interference refers to the process by which the creation of one memory reduces recall of another. For example, when recalling what one ate for lunch, it is possible that other memories—such as a memory of having eaten breakfast—may reduce memory for what occurred while eating lunch. Typically, interference is divided into two types: proactive and retroactive interference. In retroactive interference a subsequent memory interferes with recall of a past memory (i.e. memory about dinner on Sunday interferes with memory for lunch on that day). Alternatively, proactive interference occurs in the opposite manner, when old memories interfere with newer memories (i.e. memory about breakfast on Sunday reduces memory about lunch).
