has glosseng: Sub Lieutenant John Babington GC, OBE, RNVR was awarded the George Cross for great gallantry and undaunted devotion to duty in defusing bombs during World War Two, particularly for his courage in defusing a bomb which had fallen on Chatham Dockyard and was fitted with an anti withdrawal device. He was gazetted on 27 December, 1940. Babington was attached to HMS President in London. He was later awarded an OBE for gallantry in 1944. John Babington became Headmaster at the Royal Hospital School. Born in China 6 February 1911, and died on 24 March 1992.
