has gloss	eng: The lexical decision task (LDT) is a procedure used in many psychology and psycholinguistics experiments. The basic procedure involves measuring how quickly people classify stimuli as words or nonwords. Although versions of the task had been used by researchers for a number of years, the term lexical decision task was coined by David E. Meyer and Roger W. Schvaneveldt, who brought the task to prominence in a series of studies on the structure of semantic memory in the early 1970s. Since then, the task has been used in thousands of studies, investigating semantic memory and lexical access in general.

Elle consiste à présenter des mots ou des pseudomots (chaînes de caractères qui respectent les règles phonotactiques de la langue comme cateau). On demande alors aux sujets de répondre le plus rapidement et le plus précisément possible si c'est un mot ou un pseudomot. Cette tâche peut être visuelle ou auditive.

has gloss	nld: Lexicale decisie is een onderzoeksmethode die wordt toegepast in psychologisch en psycholinguïstisch onderzoek. In een lexicale decisie krijgt een persoon een aantal letterreeksen te zien, meestal op een beeldscherm, die ofwel een woord ofwel een pseudowoord of nonwoord zijn. De taak van de deelnemer is om zo snel mogelijk te beslissen of de letterreeks die hij ziet een woord is. Hierbij wordt de reactietijd gemeten; ook het foutenpercentage wordt dikwijls geanalyseerd. De lexicale decisietaak wordt veel toegepast bij onderzoek naar de organisatie van het semantisch geheugen en het mentale lexicon. Er bestaat ook een auditieve versie van deze taak, waarbij de deelnemer een aantal woorden en nonwoorden te horen krijgt.
