has gloss | eng: The Court of Common Pleas, also known as the Common Bench or Common Place, was a common law court in the English legal system. The court was originally served by five puisne justices and the Chief Justice, but the number fluctuated over time, although it was settled for several centuries in 1487 when it was reduced to four. The number increased in the 19th century most likely due to the large number of cases and by the time the court was merged in 1875 it had eight justices overall. |
