has gloss | eng: Narayan Rane (born April 10, 1952) is the current Revenue Minister, Government of Maharashtra, India, and a former Chief Minister of Maharashtra state. He was a member of Shiv Sena until July 2005 when he joined Indian National Congress party. Before joining politics he was a member of Hanya-Narya gang in Chembur area, which is a suburb of Mumbai. Old time police officers still recall picking him up in Chembur area and interrogating him for pick pocketing operations. Bal Thackeray has publicly said in media interviews that he had made a local gangster into a chief minister, an apparent reference to Rane. He also worked with sales tax department of state govt of Maharashtra. On December 6, 2008 he was suspended from the Indian National Congress for passing infavourable comments about the party. On February 19, 2009 his suspension was cancelled by the party after he wrote a letter of forgiveness to the party head, Sonia Gandhi. |
