has gloss	eng: OpenAVS is an open source implementation of Audio Video Standard (AVS) codec, which competes with other modern codecs like H.264/AAC/Theora to replace MPEG-2 as the most widespread standard for audio and video compression. It is speculated that OpenAVS will go the same direction as x264 has gone aiming for the most superior picture quality, but does not provide an encoder yet. Chinese companies own 90% patents of AVS. It will have twice the efficiency of MPEG2. The audio and video files have an .avs extension as a container format.
