Pather Panchali deals with the life of the Roy family, both in their ancestral village in rural Bengal and later when they move to Varanasi in search of a better life, as well as the anguish and loss they face during their travels.

has gloss	ben: পথের পাঁচালি বিখ্যাত সাহিত্যিক বিভূতিভূষন বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় রচিত একটি বিখ্যাত উপন্যাস । বাংলার গ্রামে দুই ভাইবোন অপু আর দুর্গার বেড়ে ওঠা নিয়েই বিখ্যাত এই উপন্যাস । এই উপন্যাসের ছোটদের জন্য সংস্করনটির নাম আম আঁটির ভেঁপু। পরবর্তী কালে বিখ্যাত চলচ্চিত্র পরিচালক সত্যজিৎ রায় এই উপন্যাসটি অবলম্বনে একই নামে একটি পৃথিবী-বিখ্যাত চলচ্চিত্র বানিয়েছিলেন ।
