In antiquity, it lay outside the city limits, 3 km north of the Porta Collina, at the point where the Via Salaria (modern SS4) crossed the Aniene, a tributary of the Tiber. The visible side arches are assumed to originate from the first stone structure built between the end of the 2nd and first half of the 1st century BC.

In der Antike lag die zur Via Salaria (moderne Bezeichnung: SS4) gehörende Brücke 3 km nördlich vom Stadttor Porta Collina. Die heute noch sichtbaren Seitenbögen dürften von einem ersten Steinbau vom Ende des 2. oder der ersten Hälfte des 1. Jahrhunderts v. Chr. herrühren.
