Der Name ist hierbei leicht irreführend, denn er bezieht sich auf das oftmals porphyrische Gefüge der magmatischen Wirtsgesteine (große, gut ausgebildete Einzelkristalle in einer feinkörnigen oder glasigen Grundmasse), nicht auf das Gefüge der Kupfervererzung selbst.
