Circulating surface water or underground fluids may interact with the plutonic fluids. Successive envelopes of hydrothermal alteration typically enclose a core of ore minerals disseminated in often stockwork-forming hairline fractures and veins. Porphyry orebodies typically contain between 0.4 and 1 % copper with smaller amounts of other metals such as molybdenum, silver and gold.

has glossdeu: Porphyrische Kupferlagerstätten (oder Kupferporphyries, nach englisch: porphyry copper deposits oder copper porphyries) sind Kupfer-Lagerstätten, die an Tiefengesteine (Intrusionen) mit einem hohen bis intermediären Gehalt von Siliciumdioxid gebunden sind. Der Name ist hierbei leicht irreführend, denn er bezieht sich auf das oftmals porphyrische Gefüge der magmatischen Wirtsgesteine (große, gut ausgebildete Einzelkristalle in einer feinkörnigen oder glasigen Grundmasse), nicht auf das Gefüge der Kupfervererzung selbst.
