| has gloss | eng: Somnoplasty is a treatment to reduce severe snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, and other blockages of the airway. It is based upon sub-dermal resistive heating, using RF, delivered with a metal needle that has an insulating sleeve covering all but the tip of the needle. The needle is inserted at the target location, RF is applied, and tissue is locally denatured. The body eventually sweeps away the necrotic tissue, and the suface sinks to fill the void, thus opening the airway. In addition, the scar tissue at the margins of the lesion is relatively firm, and less inclined to contribute to snoring. |
