Information
has glosseng: The Standard is an Indian brand of automobile which was produced by Standard Motor Products in Madras from 1957 to 1987. Indian Standards were variations of vehicles made in the U.K. by Standard-Triumph. Initially, versions of the Standard Eight and Ten/Pennant (the last, in India, curiously branded "Standard 10" and devoid of bootlid trimwork)were made, replaced in 1961 by versions of the Triumph Herald (known as the Standard Herald in India) with modified bodywork (such as four doors) until 1970. It was remodelled (with modification to the rear axle, as well as replacement of the Herald's front bucket seats with a bench) in 1971 as the Standard Gazel and continued in production in that guise until 1978. All of these models (except for the Eight) used versions of the 948-cc Standard-Triumph engine.
