has glosseng: Taigen Dan Leighton is a Soto Zen priest, academic and author teaching in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki at located in Chicago, Illinois. Leighton was ordained as a priest by Tenshin Reb Anderson in 1986, from whom he received Dharma transmission in 2000. He began his Zen practice in 1975 at the New York Zen Center, training under the roshi Kando Nakajima. During this period Leighton also began completing his studies at Columbia University, where he obtained a bachelors degree in East Asian studies. Leighton had been a film director in New York until 1979, when he left for California and began sitting at the San Francisco Zen Center (working for the Tassajara Bakery). Over the following years, Leighton practiced in residence at all of the San Francisco Zen Center facilities, including Green Gulch Farm Zen Center and Tassajara Zen Mountain Center.
