Originally introduced in 2001 as the Thomas Saf-T-Liner HD when it replaced the Saf-T-Liner ER, it was re-named the Saf-T-Liner HDX in 2004 when Thomas ended production of the Saf-T-Liner MVP ER and consolidated its transit-style school bus lineup.
