Er beschreibt also die qualitative Leistungsfähigkeit eines Bildschirms oder Projektors, ein kontrastreiches - und somit farb- und wirklichkeitsgetreues Bild zu erzeugen. Das Kontrastverhältnis ist der Quotient aus der maximal und der minimal darstellbaren Leuchtdichte z. B. eines Monitors oder eines Projektors.
