Aklan akean, Aklanon for "where there is boiling/frothing," referring to the Aklan River, which runs through the province. Albay Shortened form of the phrase al baybay, composed of a Spanish preposition and Bikol rootword, meaning "by the shore," referring to the coastal settlement of Sawangan, now the port district of Legazpi City.
