| has gloss | deu: Der Begriff Bass bezeichnet in der Musik strenggenommen nichts weiter als eine Ton- oder Stimmlage (wie Tenor, Bariton, Alt oder Sopran). Umgangssprachlich wird er jedoch als Synonym für unterschiedliche Instrumente dieser Tonlage verwendet, d. h. jenen Instrumenten, die in einer Gruppe von Musikern die Basslinie übernehmen, den Bass als ein bestimmtes Instrument gibt es nicht. Im allgemeinen Sprachgebrauch sind damit jedoch – geprägt durch die moderne Unterhaltungsmusik (Jazz, Rock, Pop, etc.) – meist Instrumente gemeint, die mit dem Kontrabass verwandt sind (E-Bass, akustische Bassgitarre). In unterschiedlichen musikalischen Umfeldern können jedoch auch andere Instrumente, wie die Tuba bei den Blechbläsern, als Bass bezeichnet werden.
